This week saw Appeti players competing in a number of tournaments including St Georges Hill, The Canterbury Open and The Bexley Ian Wright Open. Throughout the week there have been some great performances by our youngsters.
At The Canterbury Open Rosie Hewett, who was playing up an age, reached the 14U final where she faced Francesca Jones. In what proved to be a close match Rosie stayed focused and played well throughout to leave the court with a 5-4(3), 5-3 victory.
Alex Griffin successfully gained his place in the 12U final without dropping a set in his earlier matches. In the final he faced higher rated Stephen Friend. With some great serving Alex showed how much he had progressed this year by pushing his opponent all the way however Stephen’s greater experience showed through allowing him to take the match 4-1, 4-2.
Ulrich Nienaber had another great week reaching two 9U finals. The first was at The Canterbury Open where he beat Alexis Chastang (O1) 7-3, 7-6 in the semi final. He then met Ewan Grieve (O1) in a match which could have gone either way where he just lost out 2-7, 7-4, 8-6. Later in the week Ulrich reached his second final at The Bexley Ian Wright Open where once again he played some great tennis!
Also playing at Bexley was Graham Hunt who won the Men’s consolation event.
