While most of us were watching The Championships at Wimbledon on our televisions last Saturday James Davis from The Appeti Centre, Canterbury had the opportunity to take to one of the courts himself!
James who won through to last year’s Road to Wimbledon Final in both the singles and doubles events was invited, along with other finalists to spend the day experiencing what it is like to play at the Championships.
The day started with a tour round the grounds where the youngsters went into the players changing area and through the underground tunnels which are used to access some of the show courts. For James the real inspiration of the tour was the chance to actually stand on Centre Court, a real privilege as few visitors are given this opportunity.
After the tour had finished James and the others headed to Court 14 where Tim Henman gave them all some advise through one of his coaching clinics. The session drew a very large crowd and really helped the players understand what it would be like to play a match in these conditions.
For the rest of Saturday James had access to the practice court area and was given tickets to watch the action on Centre Court.
This was a great experience for everyone involved and hopefully in the future we will be able to watch James back on the Wimbledon courts competing himself in the main Mens draw!
