Congratulations to James Davis on winning both the 14U and 16U draws at The Essex Open last week. This was a great achievement for James who is only 13 years old and played consistently well throughout the week to win his place in both finals.
In the 16U final James faced Peter Odegbami (6.1). The first set was a very tight affair with James taking it 7-5. By the start of the second the momentum had shifted as Peter took an early lead and kept the advantage to win it 6-1. After refocusing during the break James played some great tennis and never looked back taking the set 6-0 to seal the match and the 16U title.
A few hours later James took to the court again this time against Thomas Pudney (5.2) in the 14U final. James got off to a flying start earning a 4-1 lead before Thomas’s consistency clawed it back to 4-4. James however pulled ahead again to take the set 6-4. The second set again saw James get off to a good lead with some great play and with the finish line in sight he kept the pressure on and took it 6-1 to clinch his second win of the day.
In all, twelve of our youngsters competed at The Essex Open held at The Billericay Lawn Tennis Club. This tournament run by Tennis Services UK is a favourite for many of our youngsters due to the welcoming atmosphere and great organisation.
Throughout the week our players put in some good solid performances and alongside James special mention should also go to Will Gee who just lost out in the final of the 8U main draw, Jamie Wallace who reached the semi final in the 16U main draw, Charlotte Hobbs who was runner up in the 18U consolation and Evie Robertson who was beaten in the 16U consolation final by Nicola Judge.
