Sunday 27th May 2012 saw our 16U boys playing against Gravesham in our latest round of the Aegon Team Tennis Kent competition.
James Davis and Jamie Wallace from The Appeti Centre took to the court first to play their singles against Josiah Simmons and Callum Reader respectively.
Both our lads took an early lead against the opposition but had mixed experiences in their second set. James was able to continue his commanding lead and finished his match with a win 6-0. 6-1 whereas Jamie found himself battling in the second set with Callum putting up a real fight to get back into the game. After some close points Jamie was able to edge ahead and take the match 6-0, 6-3.
It was then the turn of Dan Gould and Craig Price to hit the courts with Dan facing Michael Aust whilst Craig was drawn against Kieran White. Both of these matches proved to be close affairs with some interesting points being played. However Dan managed to secure a win finishing 7-5, 6-3 whereas Craig found himself in a championship tiebreak at a set all and just lost out 3-6, 6-4, 5-10.
After a short break the doubles took place with Jamie and James pairing up to play Josiah and Callum and Dan joining forces with Craig to play Michael and Kieran. Jamie and James quickly took the first set 6-0 before Gravesham had to retire leaving Appeti with the win. Michael and Kieran dug deep against our other two lads and as in the singles this match proved a real nail biter with Gravesham taking the win 2-6, 7/6(0) 5/10.
Everyone then retired to The Centre where the boys joined together for a quick snack and after match debrief.
Well done to our 16U team on their third win and good luck to Gravesham for their remaining matches!
