Last weekend saw our 9U team facing Wye at home in the next stage of the Aegon Team Tennis summer event. This was our second match of the season having previously beaten Canterbury LTC last month. Our team this time comprised of William Gee, Joseph Richards, Christian Theobald and competing in his first external competition, James Reid.
William and Joseph gave us a great start by getting identical scores in their first singles matches beating Ben Falcon and Jago Milford respectively, 7-2, 7-0. Christian followed suit by equalling their score against Ben Hancock winning 7-2, 7-0. Wye team were one man down due to one of their players being injured so James had a walkover which meant after the first round we had a healthy lead of 8-0.
In the second round Will faced Jago where he followed the days pattern by once again winning 7-2, 7-0. Joseph had a much closer match against Ben Falcon. Both boys had to work hard but after a great match Joseph just pulled ahead to take the win 7-2, 4-7, 10-8. This time Christian received the walkover and James successfully beat Ben Hancock 7-5, 10-8. Therefore our boys went into the doubles with a 16-0 lead.
The doubles proved a great end to what had been an enjoyable afternoon of tennis with Will and Joseph joining forces to play Ben F and Jago whilst Joseph’s older brother Oliver joined Ben H for a friendly match against Christian and James. Will and Joseph continued their winning form by beating Ben F and Jago 7-2, 7-3 which coupled with the walkover for the other match gave Appeti a 20-0 victory.
All the boys returned to the Academy room where they enjoyed sharing tea and jokes before Wye had to head home.
Our team are now looking forward to our next match at the beginning of June against Faversham.
