Saturday 24th May 2014 saw a group of our academy youngsters, their families and our coaches heading towards Paris for the Appeti Tennis annual trip to The French Open.
The day started early with some of the group meeting in Canterbury at 5.00am to head towards Ashford and the Eurostar terminal where some more of our youngsters joined the party. Once through the security and passport checks it wasn’t long before we speeding across the French countryside towards Paris!
Once in Paris it was a short trip on the metro to meet up with Eb, Faye, Fillie and Katrine, who had travelled the night before to join us there. The group then followed the balls and rackets painted on the pavements to take us towards the main entrance and into the grounds where we were able to enjoy the atmosphere of Kid’s Day at Roland Garros!
After a quick tour round the grounds the group settled to watch Maria Sharapova practising. Although it was a great experience for everyone it was particularly thrilling for Katrine and Marta who are big Sharapova fans. After watching her every move for quite a while, much to her excitement Marta had chance to get her autograph as she left the court.
After a few brief stops to see a number of great players including Tsonga, Murray and Kvitova the group settled once again but this time to watch a previous Champion, Boris Becker on court with the current number 2 world ranked player Novak Djokovic. It was a fantastic opportunity for our youngsters to see such a great player so close!
Unfortunately the day had to draw to a close with chance to grab a few souvenirs from the shop and just a brief opportunity to see Federer on court before he had to take cover from the rain.
A great day was had by all and everyone is looking forward to our next visit to Roland Garros and The French Open in 2015!
