July 2003 - Appeti Tennis Canterbury Launches

Pupils from the Canterbury High School were invited to take part in the opening ceremony of the Appeti Tennis Centre. The Centre was formed after a successful application by the school to fund a community tennis programme via the Government’s Sports Match programme.

Our intention is to provide an open access tennis facility to the local community.

Sports Match works by meeting private sponsorship pound for pound.

Thank you to Ash Corporate Finance who provided the private sponsorship. In total £100,000 was raised and will last for three years.

The new Centre, in conjunction with the Canterbury High School, will embark upon a district wide promotion of grass roots tennis, involving 32 primary schools and students from the Canterbury High School.

The primary schools initiative, 123 Junior Tennis, will provide youngsters with the opportunity to become involved with tennis minus the difficulty and expense often faced.

Appeti Tennis coaches will visit the schools delivering a course of tennis coaching as part of the existing PE lesson. Affordable sessions back at the Centre will be offered as party of the programme.

The funding will also help two new coaches to be trained.
