June 2016 - Ulrich into top 10 in the UK

Congratulations to Ulrich Nienaber who has had a great first half of the year and is now ranked number 1 in the South East and number 8 in the UK Nationally for his age group!

His performance during his last tournaments have been fantastic, winning the 10U draw at the Parklangley Junior Spring Tournament 2016, a prestigious regional level competition that boosted him to the No 1 spot in the South East.

Ulrich also went onto compete in the Gosling National Tour event, where he was runner up. This result dramatically improved his National Ranking to No 8 in the UK for the 10U age group.


Building on his success Ulrich has been invited to attend both Regional and National Camps in the last couple of months. The Inter-Regional training day will take place at the Dan Maskell Tennis Centre, Loughborough University in July. The Camp comprises of only 12 players from various regions, selected to attend based on attitude and performances in competition.

Ulrich also attends weekly training at The National Tennis Centre, Roehampton.

His coach Tim Bean said - “Ulrich has taken a step up in the quality of the tournaments he is competing in and in the quality of his performance in these tournaments. We have worked on a lot of match play scenarios that focus on consistency which have proved successful. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the year.”


Ulrich is a pupil at The Appeti Tennis School. The Appeti Tennis School is a partnership between Appeti Tennis and The Canterbury Academy, designed to provide a tailored programme of tennis and education to aspiring tennis players. Ulrich was awarded a scholarship at 8 years old and has subsequently received funding from Appeti Tennis and The Canterbury Academy each year to support his programme.
