September 2012 - Kent Championships 2012

The Kent County Closed Championship 2012 saw fourteen of our youngsters competing at Bromley in age groups ranging from 8U to adults.

In the 10U age group Oliver Richards played some great tennis to win his place in the main draw final after beating Adam Walker 5-4(4), 4-1 in the semis. In the final both Oliver and Rory Grant matched each other with some consistent rallies but in the end Rory was just able to pull ahead winning 2-4, 2-4.

James Davis finished, what has been a great summer of tennis, by proving his number 1 ranking in Kent by winning the 14U title at The Championships.

To reach the final James had to beat the reigning champion Alex Juniper in the semi’s. James remained confident throughout and within the first few games had clearly shown that he deserved to win. After a match where James totally dominated his opponent he secured his place in the final when Alex retired in the second set 6-0. 3-1.

In the final James faced Bailey Robbins. Both boys played well but after taking the first set 7-5 James never looked back and won the match 6-1 in the second.

Charlotte Hobbs met Tracey Hayes in the Ladies Consolation final. Charlotte’s greater experience and strength showed and she took the match 6-2, 6-2.

The Kent County Closed marked the end of what has been a successful season for Appeti players. Throughout the summer our youngsters have reached 39 finals and Appeti juniors have won in a main draw every week, which is a great achievement!

Well done to everyone!
