April 2017 - Tunbridge Wells Easter Tournament

The Summer season officially kicked off with the Tunbridge Wells Easter Tournament last week.

The start of the tournament was action packed with the sun shining down on the 8 players who were competing over the course of the day. Ciaran, Toby, Seb, Ulrich, John Mark and Kai had good first round performances in the 14U Boys draw with Ciaran, Toby, Seb, Ulrich and Kai making it through to the second round. Toby had the stand out match of the day in the second round taking the Number 5 seed and eventual runner up, Freddie Dear, to 3 sets, losing 2-6, 6-3, 2-6. In the same draw Ciaran had a great run to the Semi Finals only losing to the overall winner and Number 1 seed, Toby Bloomfield.

Marta and Amelia represented for the girls in the 14U Girls Draw with Marta making it through to the Quarter Finals where she lost out to the overall winner and Number 1 seed, Evelyn Kilsby. Amelia put in a solid performance in the 14U Girls Consolation Draw, reaching the Semi Finals.

Toby and Ciaran got off to strong starts in the 16U Boys Draw with both of them battling through their first round matches in 3 sets. There were lots of 3 set matches involving Appeti players in both singles and doubles during the week and this made for an exciting, if nail biting week. Marta kept up the theme in her first round match in the 16U Girls Draw losing to Georgia Lancaster 0-6, 6-3, 0-6. Marta, Amelia and Seb did really well in the U16 Consolation Draws with all of them reaching the Semi Finals.

In the 12U Boys Draw Ulrich and Kai both had a fantastic weeks tennis with Kai reaching the Semi Finals in the Consolation Draw and Ulrich making the Final of the Main Draw where he faced the Number 1 seed Charlie Holmes losing 3-6, 0-6 in a tough match.

In the 16U Boys Doubles Draw Toby and Ciaran put us through another 3 set match in the Semi Finals, not quite making it through to the Final, losing 2-6, 6-0, 0-1(9).

In the 9U Boys Draw Charlie, Stuart and Max competed in their first Orange Ball Grade 3 competition and they all put in 100% effort.

Ashleigh and Chloe had a brilliant 8U competition. Both girls qualified through their boxes, with a particular well done to Chloe who won all her matches in her box. This saw her go through to the Semi Final where she only lost to the eventual winner Victoria Kern 8-10.

The last match of the week saw Ciaran and Marta team up to compete in the 14U Mixed Doubles, where they had a smooth run to the Final - another 3 set match was contested and sadly the Appeti duo lost a close match 6-1, 4-6, 0-1( 7).

It was an exciting week at Tunbridge Wells and Team Appeti are looking forward to next week’s tennis at The Weald Open in Sussex.
